Dan is running to Make Winona an affordable place to live, raise a family, and retire.
“Winona County, needs more
housing and more childcare
to be able to thrive, so that
is what I am committing to doing... I believe our future is worth fighting for.”
Meet Dan
Dan Wilson is a farmer, laborer, and community advocate who has called Winona County home for the past twenty years. Dan spent six years as a live-in volunteer at Bethany House before helping lead the grassroots movement that banned frac sand mining in Winona County. He and his wife Rachel farm rotationally grazed cattle in rural Winona County, where they are raising their two children. Dan serves on the co-chair Winona Economic Development Authority, chairs Hope for Homes, and volunteers with the Wilson Fire Department. He is running for House District 26A because Winona deserves a champion for affordability — not a party follower.
Values
We want Winona to be an affordable place to raise a family, and an exciting place for our children to stay after High School or move back to after college. We do this by growing Winona together. Here’s how:
Winona First, Party Last
The issues here are driving me to run for office and fight for Winona in St. Paul. Our political system has deteriorated into a 2-party shouting match with purity tests and loyalty oaths. As a Farmer and a Laborer, my values line up with the historic Farm Labor Party, now the Democratic Farm Labor party, but I promise you that I am running first as a Winonan who wants to make Winona better for everyone. That means making sure I deliver on these promises and work with whoever will work with me to make that happen, regardless of the letter behind someone's name.
More
Housing
Winona County has a housing crisis. I am committing to building 100 units of affordable housing in downtown Winona, and making it easier for neighbors to build more homes for neighbors.
ending
Fraud & Abuse
We do this by fully revamping Health and Human services programs with a focus on efficiency, accountability, and fairness.
Affordable
Childcare
Winona County is short 500 slots of daycare. I am committing to fully funding a daycare center in our school district and making it easier for more in home daycares to be built.
protecting you from corporate cash grabs
The Federal Government’s reckless budget is poised to hit county governments and rural hospitals the hardest. I promise to make protect Winona County tax payers by making sure the largest corporations pay their fair share.
Economic
Fairness
Healthcare and home insurance prices have skyrocketed. This is because we have laws and regulations that prop up corporate profits at our expense. We can lower our insurance costs with a Minnesota Care public option and a carbon superfund program.
Personal
Liberty
I believe our communities are more vibrant and profitable when the Government keeps its nose out of our personal business, and we are able to live the lives we want.
Your Voice Matters
Especially now, all of our attention is driven by the rage fueled stories about the federal government designed to make us angry and tune out. State politics can be different. This race is different. Decisions which are fundamentally made at state level:
Who decides how much you pay in college tuition
If your school needs to fire your daughter's teacher due to budget cuts
If the potholes on your street get filled
If your community has enough for housing for everyone to thrive
And your representatives don't live in DC or in St. Paul— they live next door or down the gravel road a bit. Big change, real change, starts at the local level and moves up. That's why this race matters so much, that's why I am running.
College students, choosing to vote in Winona County is the most strategic and easiest place to vote!
